Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a website hosting server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling an Internet hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited since you will not have root access to the hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. These are all actions that are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

In case you have a cloud website hosting account with us and you would like to deal with your content remotely using SSH, you can easily obtain SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't offer this feature as standard, you can add it with a few mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the CP, you will see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You could also choose what password you would want to use, given that it does not need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a lot of Help articles where you can easily find all of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they are used. Also, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and handle them via SSH. If the plan that you've chosen includes this feature by default, you simply need to activate the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the feature is listed as an optional upgrade, you are able to quickly add it via the Add Services/Upgrades link inside the Hepsia CP and it will be available within a minute. We have a number of help articles and educational videos regarding the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a full list of the commands that you can perform together with numerous examples to offer you a better understanding of what you could do. If SSH is active, you'll also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data safely using any FTP app which supports the function.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

If you purchase a new VPS server from us, it shall offer full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to handle everything via an SSH console. The feature is provided by default with all packages, so you won't have to allow or upgrade anything. Your server will be set up right after you buy it and the moment you receive the Welcome email with the login information, you can connect through the server’s main IP address and begin working. Given that the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is isolated from the other accounts inside the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions in terms of the commands that you can use. You will have full root access, so you can install and run any app which can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software operating on it.
