If you want to point a domain address that you have to some other domain or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's directed to. In this way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the website which you have set up, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since such a record set up for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our Linux cloud website hosting plans is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few simple steps. You'll find a video tutorial within the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many possibilities - if you create a company website on our end, as an illustration, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create a site by using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain name, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to create, edit and delete CNAME records really easy with all of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are managed through the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain address or subdomain you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you need to choose the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it will be forwarded to, choose the record type, which will be CNAME in this case, and you will be all set. In case you have never used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is incredibly intuitive to use, so you will not have any issues. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the same section of Hepsia. With this function, you could easily use a domain address hosted on our revolutionary cloud hosting platform for a website created elsewhere, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and a lot more.
